Orioles' First Baseman Chris Davis Talks Ending Hitless Streak

New York Yankees v Baltimore Orioles

Despite experiencing what should be considered a very nightmare-like situation, Orioles' First Baseman Chris Davis seems to be in decent spirits about his long slump at-bat. It's pretty much a statistical wonder that any professional baseball player could go hitless 54 consecutive times, but then everything changed on Saturday:

The positive omens from batting practice proved true. With the bases loaded in the top of the first, Davis drove a 1-0, 93 mph fastball from Red Sox starter Rick Porcello into right field, scoring the first two Orioles runs of the day. Davis sprayed the ball all over the field Saturday, driving doubles toward both left and right field in subsequent at-bats to finish 3-for-5 and showing flashes of the Chris Davis who hit .286/.370/.634 with 53 homers, 138 RBIs and 6.5 WAR in 2013.

Davis called into the Dan Patrick show and seemed very excited to get this weight off his back saying:

It was AWESOME. (Laughing) It was long overdue!

When asked if Davis needs a sense of humor to get through something like this, Davis says:

I feel like you do or just...cry a lot! I don't know any other way to go about it. There was kind of a turning point for me a couple of weeks ago where I felt like I just had to kind of embrace it and try to have a little bit of fun with it but at the same time, I wanted to take it seriously, continue to work and do whatever I could to get out of it. It's baseball...stuff like this happens. Hopefully, nobody ever has to go through it quite as long as I did.
